Over the past few weeks, the Emergination Africa Team has been quite busy driving mindset change all over the country as we’ve been carrying out the Educator Venture Development Training Programme. Over 240 educators encompassing teachers and school heads were trained from more than 100 schools situated across the country and in turn imparting valuable insight that has the potential to impact 46 080 learners.
In the words of Tendayi Dzinoreva, our Lead for Content Development and Training,
“The main idea is to turn schools into self-sustaining ventures where they don’t depend on funding from government or parents.”
These trainings are meant to fully equip educators with the knowledge and skills they need to support their learners who are set to participate in this year’s edition of the National Business Case Competition (NBCC).
The NBCC takes place over 6 – 12-months and is focused on identifying and nurturing mass talent pools of students that can develop sustainable solutions utilising EA’s Venture Development Curriculum. The competition provides project-based learning, bringing real-world practical learning to high school students through an incentivized competition through which they develop a sustainable business.
Educators play the critical role of identifying and nurturing talent within their schools, supporting them as they build business ventures throughout the competition. Training the educators is therefore of vital importance since they become the driving force towards innovative entrepreneurship education.
Our Educator Venture Development Training Programme was delivered at Nyatsime College (Chitungwiza) for the Harare, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central Provinces. It then moved to Mutare Boys High School for the Manicaland province; Masvingo province at Ndarama High School (Masvingo); Gweru for the Midlands Province and lastly, Northlea High School for the Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces.
One of the attending educators, Mr. Tichaurawa from Guinea Fowl High School, shared his new found appreciation of the key role they play in developing entrepreneurs in students, by identifying ordinary learners who have varied talents and skills, then nurturing them to turn those skills and talents into problem solving, profit making and sustainable ventures.
In order to impact more schools, learners and educators, we also held a virtual session of this Educator Venture Development Training Programme on the 1st of June 2022. Schools that joined were also trained on entrepreneurial skills and expertise to participate in our world-renowned Venture Development Competition starting with provincial competitions running from the 18th to the 29th of July 2022 and the National finals on the 9th of September 2022.
A record 160 schools are expected to participate this year and we’re super excited to see the innovative solutions from our learners!
