It’s not every day that you get recognized or applauded by an organization as influential as the African Union for a job well done. Those who are familiar with our organization know that the Emergination Africa team is very small but composed of individuals who are committed to the development and nurturing of young people; equipping them with the critical, practical and problem-solving skills and competencies required to create sustainable opportunities at scale that bring about prosperity across the continent.

The African Union celebrated outstanding Education Innovations in Africa a few months ago and we were one of the 50 innovations picked for our Teacher Professional Development Training! This was both a humbling and proud moment for us.

The Innovating Education in Africa (IEA) is a programme of the African Union Commission and Partners, intended to identify and promote practical social and technological innovations aimed at enhancing access, quality, relevance and inclusion in education in order to release the potential for empowerment, employability and inventiveness.

As a team, we fully understand the role that teachers play and how much they can influence the future of our continent. Our Teacher Professional Development Programme is in line with the United Nations SDG indicator 4.c.1 of increasing the supply of qualified teachers. We implemented this program to upskill African Secondary School principals or headmasters and teachers to imbue a 21st-century education mindset and culture across their institutions that can identify and nurture young African talent.

From the previous training sessions we had with our teachers, we discovered that they benefit in the following ways:

  1. Adopt a changed mindset and culture with regards to education, technology and global issues.
  2. Gain an understanding of classroom management strategies that align to 21st Century education practices.
  3. Gain financial literacy and entrepreneurial skills that enable the creation of innovations for solving real-life problems locally and globally.
  4. Get a hands-on understanding of project-based teaching and learning methodologies to enhance applied learning in line with their national curriculum.

Our mission is to develop Africa’s future human capital through early talent identification and nurturing. For us to accomplish this, we partner with driven teachers who fit in to assist us in reaching our goal and our training programmes help them to be fully capable of interacting with the students in a way that supports our vision.

We were humbled by this recognition and now we ca continue rolling out our programme with the confidence that our contributions are making a difference in Zimbabwe, Africa and the World.
