What is your current occupation?
I am currently working as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Organizational Psychology at the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
Why did you choose to become a mentor?
I've accomplished a lot in life, certainly a lot more than I would have ever imagined and this would not have been possible were it not for the great people in my life who have helped me along the way. I've had incredible mentors, friends and family who have made me believe in myself and this has always driven me to be the best that I can be. I would like to provide the same sort of support for others. I believe in young people and I think it's important for us to support and guide them into becoming the best versions of themselves in order to help build a better society for all.
What aspect of the mentoring program do you enjoy?
The structure and the resources we have at our disposal. This is an incredibly well run mentoring program as support and guidance are always available which is particularly helpful for first time mentors.
Is there a significant experience or moment with your mentee, so far, that you'd like to highlight?
I have had many awesome moments and experiences already with my mentee but if I were to highlight one, it would have to be the day my mentee shared her aspirations with me. That conversation was quite special because it helped me get a better understanding about who she is, and most importantly, who she wants to be in the near future. It sort of set the tone for our following sessions.
